Nori Seaweed is Very Rich in Nutrients

Do you eat nori seaweed in your daily life? Nori is so nutritious that it is said that "two sheets of nori a day will keep the doctor away" (*Two sheets means two full-size sheets. Each sheet of nori is about 0.1 oz./3 g and 7.8" x 7.8"/20 cm x 20 cm). Nori is indispensable for onigiri and sushi, but it is actually a superfood. It is very thin and flimsy, but it is an excellent and nutritious food among marine products.

Nori is nutritionally superior to other marine products, as 100 grams of nori meets the recommended intake of dietary fiber, potassium, magnesium, iron, vitamins A, K, and C, vitamins B² and B12, and folic acid for adult women. It is so rich in fiber that 1/3 of nori is dietary fiber. The vitamin C in nori is heat resistant, so its nutrients are not destroyed even if it is heated.

The following is its efficacy.

- Preserves beautiful skin, hair, and nails

Nori protein is an important constituent of strong hair, nails, and skin. Deficiency causes hair and skin to fall apart.

- Helps relieve fatigue

Vitamins B¹ and B² contained in seaweed help convert carbohydrates and fats into energy and alleviate muscle and nerve fatigue. Therefore, if you consume enough, energy conversion will go smoothly and you will feel less fatigued.

- Countermeasures against anemia

Pork liver (13.0 mg per 100 g) and chicken liver (9.0 mg per 100 g) are among the foods high in iron, but the commonly sold nori has the same amount (10.8 mg) and is expected to be effective as a measure against anemia.

(*Note that the iron contained in laver is "non-heme iron" and is said to be less absorbed in the body than the "heme iron" contained in meat.)

- Improves the intestinal environment

About 1/3 of nori consists of dietary fiber. Dietary fiber feeds the good bacteria that are active in the intestines, improving the intestinal environment and relieving constipation.

- Lowers blood cholesterol

Nori contains EPA, which helps lower blood pressure and blood cholesterol. According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, the recommended daily intake of EPA is 1000 mg or more together with DHA, but laver contains 1200 mg of EPA.

We offer many kinds of nori, as we as nori-ten snacks, other snacks with nori, and onigiri at Maido. Why not try some nori and nori products for your health?
