
Konnyaku (konjac cake) is a food made from konjac yam that has been popular in Japan for centuries and is characterized by its jelly-like texture. In terms of nutrition, not only is it low in calories and rich in dietary fiber and calcium, it is also said to lower blood sugar levels and relieve constipation. The calorie content of konnyaku is approximately 5-8 kcal per 3.5 oz./100 g. Konnyaku is low in calories due to its high water content, making it suitable for dieting. The konnyaku steak recipe we present today is chewy and filling, yet very healthy. It is easy to make and is perfect as a side dish or when you are hungry before going to bed at night.
Ingredients (2 servings)
1 piece of konnyaku (konjac cake)
salt and pepper to your liking
1/2 tbsp of oil
0.4 oz./10 g of butter
2 tbsp of ponzu
1/2 tsp of sugar
Chopped scallions to your liking
Directions
1. Boil konnyaku in boiling water for 4 to 5 minutes and drain in a colander. After removing heat, cut criss cross pattern on both sides of konnyaku and cut into smaller pieces.

2. Heat oil in a frying pan and cook what you prepared in step 1 over medium heat. When both sides are browned, season with salt and pepper, ponzu, and sugar, and add butter.
3. Place on a serving dish and sprinkle with chopped scallions.
Tip
Konnyaku has a distinctive smell, so make sure to boil it before use.
