Umaibo

New, at Maido are Umaibo! Translating to “delicious stick”, Umaibo are immensely popular and have been a central player in Japanese snacking since their release in 1979. Umaibo are made from puffed corn, and are similar in texture to a cheese curl, minus the curl aspect. Their light texture and incredibly flavorful nature makes them absolutely perfect as a snack food. Umaibo are the type of food where you could eat one to satisfy a flavor craving, or eat ten and still have plenty of room for a meal after. They come in a truly huge variety of flavors, ranging from sweet to savory and are modestly priced so they can be enjoyed even on a little kid’s budget. Maido’s current inventory of Umaibo contains four flavors-- cheese, sugar rusk, nori seaweed, and spicy mentai cod roe. Take home a piece of Japanese daigashi snack culture with Umaibo on your next trip to Maido for groceries and other essentials!
